Laura joined Forbes Solicitors in 2019, before completing a training contract with Forbes and qualifying as a solicitor in September 2022.Through her training with Forbes Laura has worked in several departments and in doing so, has gained experience of advising clients operating in a range of sectors, but particularly with those within the social housing and education sectors, whom she continues to work with closely in her current role. Notwithstanding this, Laura supports a broad spectrum of clients across the public, quasi-public, private and third sectors, predominantly in relation to general governance, information governance and public procurement matters. Laura is also often engaged in providing specialist support to other teams within Forbes.
A significant element of Laura's role involves reviewing, commenting on, and amending data protection documents to ensure compliance with domestic data protection legislation, including: data processing agreements; data sharing agreements; data protection policies; subject access procedures; Legitimate Interest Assessments and Data Protection Impact Assessments. As part of this work, Laura provides specific advice in relation to the application of the UK GDPR, including personal data breaches, subjects access requests, Freedom of Information Act requests, right to erasure requests and reporting to the Information Commissioner.
Laura also assists with school academisations, where she supports in drafting suites of documents required by the Department for Education, such as transfer agreements, funding agreements and schemes of delegation. In addition, Laura provides advice in relation to public procurement matters, including the application of and exemptions to Public Contracts Regulations, shared services and in-house contracting solutions.
